Orthodontic braces: fun facts for people with adult braces or teen braces.

October is National Orthodontic Health Month.

To help you celebrate, the American Association of Orthodontics (AA) is providing fun recipes for people wearing orthodontic braces.

If you’re in the mood to try some entertaining and easy to make recipes that are orthodontic braces friendly, consider:

All of these recipes - and several others, besides - have been created by Emmy-winning Food Network professional and cookbook author Michael Chiarello.

Brilliant people throughout the ages have known the importance of correcting orthodontic dental care issues.

As long ago as 400 B.C., a doctor named Hippocrates was writing about “irregularities of the teeth” while Leonardo da Vinci recognized, hundreds of years ago, how important tooth alignment is when biting and chewing food.

This is now the time to consider whether anyone in your family needs braces - whether that means adult braces or teen braces - to improve dental health, appearances and smiles.

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that everyone get a screening by the age of 7 and estimates that about 50 to 75 percent of people would benefit from orthodontic dental care.

Right now, approximately 4.5 million people in the United States and Canada alone, according to the AAO, are wearing either teen braces or adult braces, with one in five orthodontia wearers being above the age of 18. It’s never too late to get braces, either; people in their 50s, 60s and beyond are wearing - and benefiting from - adult braces.
