Adult braces: key info about traditional braces, Invisalign braces and more.
Orthodontic braces: did you know that some parents are getting braces at the same time as their teens?
It’s true! And, although there used to be a stigma against adult braces, this has nearly disappeared as people recognize that healthy smiles are important for people of all ages.
If you’re thinking about getting adult braces, first make sure that your orthodontist office accepts your dental care insurance plan. Also find out this information from your professional dental care team:
- Are you a good candidate for “invisible braces” such as Invisalign braces?
- Will any of your teeth need to be extracted?
- How will you need to take care of your teeth while wearing adult braces?
- How often will you need to visit the orthodontist? What about emergency repairs?
- How long will you wear braces? Will that time frame change with Invisalign braces?
Create a special dental care kit for use while you’re wearing orthodontic braces and keep it with you wherever you go.
This kit should contain a toothbrush and toothpaste that have the American Dental Association (ADA) Seal of Acceptance, plus dental floss threaders, which make it easier to floss while wearing braces. Also pack a mirror so that you can check the cleanliness of your teeth, wherever you are. You may also want to pack a travel-sized bottle of mouth rinse and your favorite brand of breath mints.
If you have any questions about orthodontic braces, ask your dental care professional.
Quality communication is extremely important as you make your decisions about braces so that you can have the best type of braces for your smile.
