Family dentistry: here’s how to find the right family dentist for your child.

You want to find just the right family dentist for your children – and here’s how!

Before selecting a family dentist, ask yourself these questions:

1. Does this dentist focus on educating my children about lifelong dental health care?

You’ll want a dentist who shares information with your children, letting them know how to take care of their teeth now to avoid future issues.

2. What are the business hours at this dental care office and what should you do in the case of dental health care emergencies?

If a dentist only works 9-5, Monday through Friday – and you do, too – then this dentist isn’t a good match for your family. Look for a family dentist who offers evening and/or weekend hours and who provides dental care in emergency situations.

3. Does this family dentistry office provide a variety of payment and financing plans and are they a preferred provider for most dental health care insurance plans?

If not, keep looking.

4. Is the dental care staff warm, friendly and approachable? Are they patient with your children and do they soothe their fears?

It’s important to choose a family dentist who calms anxieties and who makes your child or children feel comfortable and relaxed.

5. Does your family dentistry team keep up to date with the latest in dental care technologies and procedures?

It goes without saying that this is what you want for your children.

6. Does this family dentistry office provide the dental health care services that you want and need?

Think beyond today when answering this question. For example, your 5- and 7-year-old children may not need orthodontic braces today, but they might in a few years. So, consider that when making your decision.

Using this checklist of questions, you can then choose the family dentistry practice that is just right for you and your family with confidence!
